The Apostle's Creed
I believe ..... in Jesus Christ
As Trinitarians, United Methodists (as well as many protestant faiths) believe Jesus Christ is God. We believe that Jesus is equal to, the same and One with God the Father, and He is the physical Son of God. To believe that Jesus once lived is to believe historical fact. To believe Jesus is One with the Father, God, is a matter of faith. More than believing that Jesus is God, we believe in Jesus as Lord of our lives, and trust Him as our Savior. Here we look at Who Jesus is, and What is His presence and work in our lives.
Scripture:
Jesus (Greek) = Yeshua (Hebrew), means Savior
Christ (Greek) = Messiah (Hebrew), means Anointed One
Lord (Greek-Kurios), means God, Master
Luke 2:11, John 4:42, Acts2:36, Eph.1:3, Tit.2:13
Philip.2:11 "every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.."
Romans 10:9 "If thou confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus ..."
Jesus is:
God with us, Matt.1:23; The Word, John 1:1-5,14
The Way, Truth, and Life, John 11:25-27, 14:6,
Alpha and Omega, Rev.1:8, 11,13,17-18, 22:13,
the Corner Stone, 1Peter 2:2-8; Redeemer, Eph.1:7,
High Priest, Heb.4:14, 7:22-27, 9:11-12
Compassionate, Mark 1:40-41, 8:1-3, Luke 7:12-15,
What difference does it make in our lives that we believe in Jesus Christ the Lord? For some people who say they are "Christian", their "faith" has no visible effect on their life. Just looking at them, watching them, you would not notice any difference between them and any other person. But, for some people, being a Christian makes a lot of difference. It is not just an intellectual understanding, not just a spiritual belief, but a way of life; to be a Christian is Life.
